Teacher of the Year 2025-2026

Griswold High School’s Nancy Coolidge Named 2025-2026 Teacher of the Year

Griswold Public Schools is proud to announce that Nancy Coolidge, a science teacher at Griswold High School, has been selected as the 2025-2026 Teacher of the Year.

On the morning of June 3, Ms. Coolidge was surprised in her classroom by Superintendent Sean McKenna, joined by her family, GHS colleagues, and members of the Teacher of the Year Selection Committee.

She was selected from a pool of 26 nominated educators across the district. Fourteen applicants moved forward to the final review process. Ms. Coolidge stood out for her dedication to student learning, innovative instruction, and strong connections with her students—several of whom nominated her directly.

“Ms. Coolidge restored my love for science. She’s the kindest, sweetest woman and someone who makes me feel glad to be at school.” – Maryn A., 9th grade student from Preston, CT

She is always willing to help and pushes me to my potential. She connects with students personally, and makes science more enjoyable than ever before.” – MJ B., 9th grade student from Preston, CT

She makes class fun with new and interesting ways to do experiments. She lets us joke around, but not so much that it distracts from learning. She’s a great motivator.” – Kaia D., 9th grade student from Griswold, CT

Ms. Coolidge teaches senior Environmental Science and freshmen Earth & Space Science courses and is known for creating engaging, real-world learning experiences—whether through hands-on field trips, guest speakers, or interactive lessons that bring science to life. This includes programs with the Harvard Forest Schoolyard Ecology Program, Mystic Aquarium, Project Oceanology, Pachaug Forest, the Norwich Utilities Hydropower Dam, and professional development from the Audubon Society. Her teaching is rooted in curiosity, connection, and a deep commitment to her students. She has worked at Griswold High School since 2015, and previously taught STEM courses at Killingly Intermediate School.

She is also a team player, having worked with colleagues as part of the Griswold Public Schools Catalyst Team, the Teaching, Learning & Innovation Committee, and the Technology Committee.

Nancy Coolidge will be honored at the district’s August 2025 Convocation for faculty and staff, recognized at a fall Board of Education meeting, and celebrated at the State of Connecticut Teacher of the Year Ceremony at the Bushnell in Hartford this November. She is also now eligible to enter the State of Connecticut Teacher of the Year selection process.

On behalf of the entire GPS community, congratulations, Ms. Coolidge—and thank you for all you do for Griswold students!
