Sean P. McKenna

Sean McKenna has dedicated more than 25 years to public education in Connecticut. He began his role as the Superintendent of Griswold Public Schools in July, 2016. During his tenure, Mr. McKenna has partnered with the Griswold community to propel the district forward with steady progress and notable growth. Mr. McKenna has led comprehensive program development to support students and families; implemented high-quality instruction anchored to student well-being; offered more dual credit courses to high school students, including cutting-edge technology and manufacturing courses; spearheaded substantial facility and technology upgrades; and built a tuition-partnership business model that has increased revenue by over five million dollars.
Beyond his administrative work, Mr. McKenna is active in professional organizations and committees, presents at regional and national conferences, and serves as an adjunct professor in Sacred Heart University's Superintendent Preparation program. He also periodically teaches in the Griswold summer learning program, with his upcoming course, "Upside Down Worlds: Stranger Things and Dante's Inferno," slated for summer 2026.
Prior to Griswold, Mr. McKenna held multiple leadership roles in Groton Public Schools, including Interim Superintendent, Assistant Superintendent, and Assistant Principal. Earlier in his career, he was a Department Chair and English Teacher in Waterford Public Schools.
Sean McKenna and his wife, Amy, reside in Mystic, Connecticut, with their three children, Nathan, Catherine, and Mary.
