Triennial School Wellness Assessment

Griswold Public Schools is in the process of a triennial assessment of its School Wellness Policy. This is a requirement of the Connecticut State Department of Education’s Office of Student Supports and Organizational Effectiveness.

Griswold strives to meet and exceed its wellness goals, and our departments, the District Safety, Wellness and Climate Committee and sub-committees are working together to move Griswold wellness forward. Our food services department continues to implement healthy food choices and cafeteria procedures for students. Faculty and Staff Pre-K through 12 encourage outdoor play at recess (GES and GMS), activity periods (GMS and GHS), and as an earned reward, in addition to exploring the campus nature trails for academic studies such as science. Our health teachers at each school instruct students on age-appropriate health and wellness topics including the importance of healthy diet and exercise, mental health, healthy relationships, avoiding unhealthy substances, and more.

The Griswold Public Schools District Safety, Wellness and Climate Committee meets regularly throughout the school year to review and discuss topics related to safe school climate, culture, safety, and wellness. Learn more on the School Climate webpage. The Committee will define sub-committees at future meetings to discuss specific topics such as Physical Fitness, Nutrition, Mental Wellness, and more. Stay tuned for updates. Community members interested in joining our School Wellness Sub-committees should contact Tom O'Connor, Director of Food Services, at TO'Connor@griswoldpublicschools.org or (860) 376-7685.
